In the crystal structure of NaH2[O2CCH3]3 the residues CH3CO2H and CH3CO2– are crystallographically distinct; they are co-ordinated to the Na+ ions forming chains parallel to the c axis, which are strengthened by short asymmetric hydrogen bonds.
