Selective synthesis of monohydrosilanes by the reactions of organoytterbium iodides with dihydrosilanes
Monohydrosilanes can be prepared selectively in high yields from the reaction of various aryl and alkyl iodides with ytterbium metal followed by the reaction with dihydrosilanes.

Regioselective, hydrogen‐acceptor‐free CH bond silylation of anisoles or alkoxy‐substituted benzenes with hydrosilanes was achieved by use of a half‐sandwich scandium catalyst. The reaction proceeds through ortho‐CH activation of an anisole compound by a scandium hydride species followed by the silylation of the resulting scandium 2‐anisyl species with a hydrosilane (see scheme).
[GRAPHICS]The arylation of dihydrosilanes with aryl iodides or heteroaryl iodides in the presence of a palladium catalyst provides the corresponding monohydrosilanes in good to high yield. Moderate to good yields are obtained even in the presence of a variety of reactive functional groups, such as -NH2, -OH, or -CN, without their protection.

Aryl halides are converted to aryldiphenylsilanes in moderate to good yields in the presence of tetraphenyldisilane and CsF in DMPU or HMPA. Ten examples are reported. (C) 1997 Elsevier Science Ltd. All rights reserved.
