Abstract Ferric dodecyl sulfonate [Fe(DS)3] is easily prepared and can be used as a Lewis acid surfactant catalyst in water to conduct the highly efficient electrophilic substitution reaction of indoles with aliphatic or aromatic aldehydes at roomtemperature.
