The addition of triethylsilane, triphenylsilane, and triethoxysilane to a variety of alkynes is catalyzed by complexes derived from Ni(COD)2 and N-heterocyclic carbenes. A description of the reaction scope and potential mechanistic implications in nickel-catalyzed additions of aldehydes, alkynes, and silanes is provided.
