  The present application relates to novel 2-(4-piperidinyl)-1H-pyrido[4,3-b]indol-1-ones of formula wherein R¹ is hydrogen, optionally substituted phenyl or phenylalkyl, R² is hydrogen, alkyl, furanylalkyl, thienylalkyl, pyrrolylalkyl, pyridinylalkyl, optionally substituted phenylalkyl or a group of formula wherein R³ is alkyl, haloalkyl, haloalkyl or optionally substituted phenyl or phenylalkyl; X is hydrogen, alkyl, alkoxy, halogen, or trifluoromethyl; m is 0, 1, or 2; n is 1 or 2. The compounds of the invention show antipsychotic acitvity and can therefore be used as medicaments.
