  The invention is concerned with compounds of the formula: ##STR1## wherein: R.sup.1 is selected from the group consisting of hydrogen and methyl; R.sup.2 is selected from the group consisting of normal or terminally singly branched alkyl or alkenyl groups having four to seven carbon atoms provided that: (i) when R.sup.1 is hydrogen the alkyl group must have at least five carbon atoms, and (ii) when R.sup.1 is methyl, R.sup.2 is an alkyl group. This invention is also concerned with odorant compositions containing these compounds.
