A method for making diarylthioethers including thioetherbis(phthalic anhydrides) and thioetherbis(phthalimides) in the absence of a solvent medium by the interaction of sulfide compounds, including alkali metal sulfides and alkali metal hydrogen sulfides, with molten organo-substituted aromatic compounds including phthalic anhydrides and phthalimides mediated by a phase transfer catalyst.
Two benzyne-enabled desulfurizationreactions have been demonstrated which convert diaryl sulfoxides and heteroaryl sulfoxides to biaryls and desulfurized heteroarenes, respectively. The reaction accessing biaryls tolerates a variety of functional groups, such as halides, pseudohalides, and carbonyls. Mechanistic studies reveal that both reactions proceed via a common assembly process but divergent
transition metal catalysis, photoinduced catalysis has emerged as a versatile and sustainable way to achieve carbon–heteroatom bond formation. This work discloses a visible-light-induced reaction for the formation of a C–S bond from aryl halides and inorganic sulfuration agents via electron donor–acceptor (EDA) complex photocatalysis. Divergent formations of organic sulfide and disulfide have been demonstrated
