Process for the preparation of modified zinc oxide nanoparticles, which comprises reacting zinc oxide nanoparticles, which are dissolved in a solvent, in the presence of ammonia or amines with a tetraalkyl orthosilicate and optionally with an organosilane, with the proviso that the reaction takes place at a content of less than 5% by weight of water, based on the total amount of solvent and water. Modified zinc oxide nanoparticles which have Si—O-alkyl groups and are soluble in organic solvents, obtainable by this process for the preparation. Liquid or solid formulations which comprise modified ZnO nanoparticles. Inanimate organic materials, for example plastics or coatings, which comprise modified ZnO nanoparticles. Method of stabilizing inanimate organic materials against the effect of light, free radicals or heat, where modified ZnO nanoparticles, which optionally comprise UV absorbers and/or stabilizers as further additives, are added to the materials.
2-(2-Hydroxyphenyl)benzotriazoles are outstandingly suitable for stabilizing iodine-containing biocides in industrial materials, more particularly in paints based on alkyd resin.

The present invention relates to stable compositions for the fungicidal equipment of thermoplastic polymers, in particular PVC, comprising thiabendazole, at least one iodine-containing fungicide and at least one epoxide and optionally further fungicidally active compounds, and also to methods for preparing these formulations and to uses thereof for the protection of thermoplastic polymers against attack and destruction by microorganisms. Moreover, the invention relates to mold-resistant PVC materials equipped with the compositions according to the invention.

A stabilizer composition comprising (A) a compound of the formula I
wherein R is (CH2-CH2-O-)n-R2; -CH2-CH(OH)-CH2-O-R2; or -CH(R3)-CO-O-R4; n is 0 or 1; R2 is C1-C13alkyl or C2-C20alkenyl or C6-C12aryl or CO-C1-C18alkyl; R3 is H or C1-C8alkyl; R4 is C1-C12alkyl or C2-C12alkenyl or C5-C6cycloalkyl; and (B) one or more compounds selected from (i) to (xlv) as defined in claim 1 is especially effective towards stabilizing organic materials against degradation induced by light, heat or oxidation.
