The reaction of diethylazodicarboxylate with homoallylic silanes capable of two modes of reaction give ene adducts by preferential abstraction of allylic hydrogens nearer the silyl group. This regioselectivity has been exploited in the synthesis of some cyclic hydrazine derivatives.
