  The synthesis of six new beta-phenyl isoserines, each bearing an amino or a nitro substituent on the phenyl ring in various positions, is reported. These compounds, analogues of the docetaxel side chain, have been obtained by asymmetric aminohydroxylation of the corresponding cinnamates with excellent regiospecificity and in good enantiomeric excess.
