2-disila-4-cyclohexene were obtained in near equal quantities from the reaction of 1,3-butadiene with Si2H4 (H3SiSiH or H2SiSiH2) generated from the pyrolysis of Si3H6. Competitive reactions of SiH2 with 1,3-butadiene and Si2H6 and of GeH2 with 1,3-butadiene and digermane have demonstrated that while SiH2 addition to 1,3-butadiene can compete favorably with insertion into Si2H6, GeH2 addition to 1,3-butadiene
