Radicalaromaticsubstitution of tert-butyl groups for hydrogen on simple arene chromiumtricarbonyl complexes was accomplished. Preexisting tert-butyl groups and methoxy groups directed incoming radicals primarily to the meta-position, and methoxy groups diminished the rate of substitution by roughly tenfold.
