5-difluoro-pyridine 1 was used as the starting material for the synthesis of a variety of multifunctional pyridine derivatives. For example, nucleophilic substitution reactions involving appropriate difunctional nucleophiles gave products resulting from intramolecular cyclisation processes and the organolithium derivative 9, readily prepared from 1, could be trapped by various of electrophilic reagents.
