Fluorinations of the free-radical adducts of fluorinated alkenes, to ethers, overcobalttrifluoride are described and perfluorinated ethers are obtained at temperatures in excess of 400°C. The effect of structure on the formation of perfluoroethers is outlined.

1-(2-tetrahydrofuryl)-pentafluoropropene 1 reacts with sodium alkoxides in parent alcohol solutions to give 1-alkoxy-1-(2-tetrahydrofuryl)-tetrafluoropropenes 2 as major products and 1-alkoxy-2H-1-(2-tetrahydrofuryl)-pentafluoropropanes 3 as very minor products. The yield of adducts 3 is, to some extent, increased by the reduced basicity of the alkoxideion. Results are discussed in terms of the supposed properties

The present invention aims to provide an electrolyte solution containing a quaternary ammonium salt as an electrolyte salt and is capable of providing an electrochemical device having a high capacitance retention and reducing generation of gas. The electrolyte solution of the present invention contains a solvent, a quaternary ammonium salt, and a nitrogen-containing unsaturated cyclic compound. The unsaturated cyclic compound is a nitrogen-containing unsaturated heterocyclic compound. The unsaturated cyclic compound excludes salts of the unsaturated cyclic compound and ionic liquids obtainable from the unsaturated cyclic compound.
Partly fluorinated ethers, obtained by free-radical addition of nethers to perfluorinated-alkenes or -cycloalkenes, are converted to perfluoroethers, using cobalt trifluoride at very high temperatures.
