  Phenylhydrazones may exhibit three types of reactivity towards alkenes: Nucleophilic attack by carbon, nucleophilic attack by nitrogen and 1,3-dipolar cycloaddition through the azomethine imine ylide. The course of the reaction depends on the nature of the hydrazone and alkene subitituents.
