The ozonization of norbornadiene is described. Oxidation of the intermediate with silver oxide furnishes 4-cyclopentene-cis-1, 3-dicarboxylic acid, reduction with sodium borohydride cis-1, 3-bis-hydroxymethylcyclopent-4-ene.
