This photoelectric conversion element is characterized in that the hole transport layer is formed by bringing the photoelectric conversion layer into contact with a solution, which contains a conductive polymer precursor and an oxidant at a ratio satisfying 0.1 < [Ox]/[M] (wherein [Ox] represents the molar concentration of the oxidant and [M] represents the molar concentration of the conductive polymer precursor), and then irradiating the photoelectric conversion layer with light.
