The first totalsynthesis of isosilybin B is reported. The synthesis of the flavanonol framework of isosilybin B was carried out by oxidation of flavanol. The stereogenic centers of flavanonol was constructed by the modified Julia-Kocienski olefination, Sharpless dihydroxylation, and the acidic cyclization via formation of a quinomethide intermediate.

Total synthesis of (−)-domoic acid, a potent ionotropic glutamate receptor agonist and the key compound in oceanic harmful algal blooms
The stereo-controlled totalsynthesis of (−)-domoic acid is described. The critical construction of the C1′–C2′ Z-configuration was accomplished by taking advantage of an unsaturated lactam structure. The side chain fragment was introduced in the final stages of synthesis through a modified Julia–Kocieński reaction, aiming for its efficient derivatization.

The present invention deals with novel antifogging compounds and their use in a method of photographic reproduction comprising developing a photographic material having at least one exposed silver halide emulsion layer in the presence of a 1-phenyl-5-mercaptotetrazole compound wherein the phenyl group bears a substituent comprising at least one thioether function.
