Contribution to the problem of the character of the CLi bond in some alpha-lithium esters

In α-lithium esters of the type R1R2C(Li)COOR3, prepared in situ in solution, the CO stretching vibration is shifted in varying degrees with respect to the nonmetallated analogues. According to MO LCAO SCF calculations, the magnitude of this shift indicates the degree of the ionic character of the CLi bond.
