  [EN] A composition for the treatment of vaginal yeast which promotes normal vaginal bacterial growth during treatment, comprising a yeast-inhibitory agent selected from one or more of the group consisting of ethylene glycol, propylene glycol, and glycerol, an effectively buffered aqueous acetate solution and cells of a Lactobacillus species. In the composition the concentration of acetate is effective to establish a pH of the composition in the range of from about 5 to about 7, the presence of unionized acetate inhibits yeast selectively compared to the bacteria, and the proportions of the yeast inhibitory agent and the buffering solution are effective to allow the active yeast-inhibitory agent to inhibit the vaginal yeast Candida. A method of treatment of vaginal yeast while promoting normal vaginal bacterial growth, by intravaginal application of the composition described above, is disclosed.
  [FR] On décrit une composition de traitement des levures vaginales qui stimule le développement bactérien vaginal normal pendant le traitement et comprend un ou plusieurs agents inhibant les levures sélectionnés parmi éthylène glycol, propylène glycol et glycérol, une solution d'acétate aqueuse efficacement tamponnée et des cellules d'une espèce de Lactobacillus. Dans cette composition, la concentration d'acétate est suffisante pour conférer à la composition un pH compris entre environ 5 et environ 7, la présence d'acétate non ionisé inhibe les levures de manière sélective comparativement aux bactéries et les proportions d'agent inhibant les levures et de solution de tamponnage sont efficaces pour permettre à l'agent actif inhibant les levures d'inhiber la levure vaginale du type Candida. On décrit également dans cette invention un procédé de traitement des levures vaginales qui stimule simultanément le développement bactérien vaginal normal et qui consiste à appliquer dans le vagin la composition présentée ci-avant.
