Maleate diesters and maleicanhydrides can be synthesized respectively by using different type of alcohol in the palladium catalyzed dicarbonylation of terminal acetylene. In primary or second aliphatic alcohols, only α,β-unsaturated diesters were yielded. In tert-BuOH, maleicanhydrides were selectively synthesized.
