Stereoselective synthesis of (2Z)-3-arylselenocinnamonitriles and coupling them with Grignard reagents catalysized by CuI, giving the trisubstituted alkenes with main retention products.

Selenoesters have been prepared in good yield by reaction of diaryldiselenides with acid chlorides or acid anhydrides induced by the TiCl4–Sm–THF system under mild reaction conditions.

Abstract Samarium metal reacts with diselenides in the presence of a catalytic amount of potassiumiodide to generate samarium(II1) selenolates. Samarium (111) selenolates thus formed in situ, react with acid chlorides to give selenoesters in moderate yields.

Abstract The reduction of diaryldiselenides by Cp2TiCl2/2i-BuMgBr/THF led to arylselenium complex of titanocene (Cp2TiSeAr). This species reacts smoothly with acidic anhydrides to give selenoesters.

Carbonicanhydrases (CAs, E.C. 4.2.1.1) are metalloenzymes expressed on a variety of cell types. Their overexpression leads to serious pathologies, including cancer. The discovery of a series of selenolesters with high structural diversity as novel CA inhibitors is reported here. These compounds show remarkable in vitro inhibition against a panel of human CA isoforms such as hCA I, II, IX and XII.
