    The sex pheromone of the pistachio twig borer, Kermania pistaciella (Lepidoptera: Oinophilidae), one of the most important insect pests of pistachio, Pistacia vera, in Turkey and Iran, was identified. In gas chromatographic-electroantennographic detection (GC-EAD) and GC-mass spectrometric analyses of pheromone gland extracts of female K. pistaciella from Turkey, (2S,12Z)-2-acetoxy-12-heptadecene was identified as the major candidate pheromone component. In field experiments in Turkey, lures containing synthetic (2S,12Z)-2-acetoxy-12-heptadecene attracted large numbers of male moths. Its attractiveness was significantly reduced by the presence of the R-enantiomer or of either enantiomer of the corresponding alcohol. (2S,12Z)-2-Acetoxy-12-heptadecene is the first pheromone component identified in the Oinophilidae and the first secondary acetate pheromone component identified in the Lepidoptera.

    Here we show that a primary amine can engage in the nucleophilic addition to an aldehyde to synthesize an alcohol following preactivation of the amine.     The invention is related to medicine and veterinary fields, in particular to nonsteroidal antiglucocorticoids. An aim of the invention is the establishment of a new class of drugs with low toxicity and high activity in regulation of sensitivity of mammalian cells to the glucocorticoid hormones. There is a naval application of an insect pheromone with long-chain aliphatic nonsteroidal structure or its synthetic analog or derivative that is unsaturated aliphatic alcohol, aldehyde or ester, for specific inhibition of glucocorticoid hormone influence on mammalian cells. The aliphatic carbon chain length of these pheromones varies from 10 to 21 carbon atoms. There is also a possibility of combining application of two or more pheromones and/or their synthetic analogs and derivatives for enhancement of therapeutic activity, selection being made on the basis of different hydrophobic properties proportional to the aliphatic carbon chain length. Difference in lengths of these chains must be no loss than five carbon atoms. Example of preparation of the pharmaceutical forms and results of comparative experiments that show their high activity are disclosed.

    Detergents useful for cold-water cleaning and mid-chain headgroup and alkylene-bridged surfactants useful therein are disclosed. The mid-chain headgroup surfactant has a C14-C30 alkyl chain and a polar group bonded to a central zone carbon of the alkyl chain. The alkylene-bridged surfactant has a C12-C18 alkyl chain, a polar group, and a C1-C2 alkylene group bonded to the polar group and a central zone carbon of the C12-C18 alkyl chain. Preferred surfactants in these classes are alcohol sulfates, alcohol ethoxylates, ether sulfates, sulfonates, arylsulfonates, alcohol phosphates, amine oxides, quaterniums, betaines, and sulfobetaines. Surprisingly, detergents formulated with the surfactants provide outstanding cold-water performance in removing greasy stains such as bacon grease, butter, cooked beef fat, or beef tallow from soiled articles.

    Laundry detergents and their use for cold-water cleaning are disclosed. The detergents comprise a lipase and a mid-chain headgroup surfactant or an alkylene-bridged surfactant. The mid-chain headgroup surfactants have a C14-C30 alkyl chain and a polar group bonded to a central zone carbon of the C14-C30 alkyl chain. The alkylene-bridged surfactants comprise a C12-C18 alkyl chain, a polar group, and a C1-C2 alkylene group bonded to the polar group and a central zone carbon of the C12-C18 alkyl chain. Surprisingly, when combined with lipases, detergents formulated with the mid-chain headgroup or alkylene-bridged surfactants effectively liquefy greasy soils at low temperature and provide outstanding cold-water performance in removing greasy stains such as bacon grease, butter, cooked beef fat, or beef tallow from soiled articles.
