Implementations of the disclosed subject matter provide a method for producing glycols from an anhydrosugar feed. The method may include contacting, in a reactor under hydrogenolysis conditions, the anhydrosugar feed with a bi-functional catalyst system. The bi-functional catalyst system may include a retro-Aldol catalyst and a hydrogenation catalyst. A product stream may be obtained from the first reactor including ethylene glycol and propylene glycol.
The present invention relates to polysaccharidic esters of retinoic acid, wherein the hydroxyl groups of the monosaccharidic units of the polysaccharide are partially or totally esterified with retinoic acid. A process to obtain these esters is also described. The products according to the present invention can be used in the pharmaceutical and cosmetic field.

Disclosed is a method of preparing a petroleum-alternative bio fuel material such as 5-hydroxymethyl-2-furfural (HMF), 5-alkoxymethyl-2-furfural, levulinic acid alkil ester, etc. through a single process without saccharification, using a catalyst conversion reaction, from galactan that can be massively supplied at low costs and extracted from macroalgae of marine reusable resources.
Thus, the macroalgae of the marine biomass resources is used so that a carbon source can be more easily extracted than that of a lignocellulosic biomass resource without a problem of having an effect on grain price like a crop-based biomass.

1. The mucilage of Chondrus ocellatus Holmes has been investigated by the partial methanolysis method.2. A new disaccharide, the structure of which is shown to be 4-O-β-d-galactopyranosyl-3,6-anhydro-d-galactose, has been isolated in the form of its dimethylacetal and methyl β-glycoside in a good yield.3. The disaccharide has been named carrabiose.4. It has been suggested that 1→3′ linked carrabiose represents the repeating unit for the most part of the carbohydrate of the Chondrus mucilage.
