Palladium-catalyzed hydrogenolysis of (E)-4,5-epoxy-4-methyl-2-alkenoates with HCO2H-Et3N gave (E)-5-hydroxy-4-methyl-2-alkenoates in good yields with inversion of stereochemistry.
