An efficient annulation strategy involving the reaction of phenolic acetates with acrylates in the presence of [Rh2(OAc)4] as catalyst and formic acid as reducing agent, leading to the high yield synthesis of coumarin derivatives, has been developed. The addition of NaOAc as a base increased the yield of the products. The reaction is quite successful for both electron-rich as well as electron-deficient

Ring closing metathesis of allyloxy styrenes and a subsequent Ru-catalyzed allylic oxidation can be combined to a tandemsequence that makes coumarins accessible using less active but more conveniently available first generation catalysts.

A simple and efficient one‐pot synthesis of 6‐bromocoumarins was achieved in good yields via the three‐component reaction of phenols, 4‐substituted acetoacetate and tetrabutylammoniumtribromide (TBATB) in CH2Cl2‐MeOH.

coupling reaction. The polymers exhibited absorption maxima at longer wavelength due to π-π* transition of the mainchain, which indicates the expansion of π-conjugated system along the polymermainchain. The polymers showed acid-base responsive fluorescence due to the lactone ring opening-closing property in the mainchain accompanied by the addition of alkali and acid. The polymers also exhibited ion
A series of novel π-conjugated polymers bearing alternating coumarin and phenylene units in the mainchain backbone was synthesized via Sonogashira coupling reaction. The red-shifts in the absorption maxima of the polymers indicate the expansion of π-conjugated system in the polymermainchains. These polymers exhibited strong green fluorescence in organic solvents.
