    An olefin polymerization catalyst is obtained by bringing the following components (A), (B) and (C) into contact with one another: (A) a solid catalyst component for olefin polymerization containing a titanium atom, a magnesium atom and a halogen atom; (B) an organoaluminum compound; and (C) a triether represented by formula (I). An olefin polymerization solid catalyst can be provided having a sufficiently high polymerization activity and an ability to produce an olefin polymer with a low content of low-molecular weight components and amorphous components.

    Disclosed is a catalyst composition for use in the polymerization of olefins, which is comprised of (a) a catalyst component containing magnesium, titanium, a halogen, and an ingredient derived from an ester compound, and (b) an organic aluminum compound. The catalyst activity and capability of providing a highly stereoregular polymer are enhanced by preparing the catalyst component (a) by a process wherein, during or after the formation of a solid catalyst component containing magnesium, titanium, and a halogen, the solid catalyst component is treated with an ester of the formula: (R¹O)i(R²O)j(R³O)k-Z-COOR⁴      (I) wherein R¹, R², R³ and R⁴ are an aliphatic, alicyclic, aromatic, polycyclic or heterocyclic compound group, Z is an aliphatic or alicyclic hydrocarbon group in which hydrogen may be substituted with an aromatic or polycyclic group, and i, j and k are integers of 0 to 3 with the provisio that the sum of i, j and k is at least 1.

    A process of producing an olefin polymer by polymerizing an olefin in a multi-stage polymerization in the presence of a catalyst composed of a solid catalyst component containing a halogen and titanium, and an organoaluminum compound, while adding, to a reaction vessel for conducting a second-stage or later polymerization or a portion connecting a former part to a latter part, of the multi-stage polymerization reaction vessels, (a) a polyfunctional electron donor compound in an amount, based on the organoaluminum compound, of 0.001 to 50 in terms of the ratio of the total moles of the functional groups to the mole of aluminum, and (b) a compound different from the compound (a) and selected from a compound having a group of the formula M-O-R (wherein M is an element selected from the group consisting of the group IA, IIA, IIB, IIIA, IIIB, IVA, IVB, VA, VB, VIA, VIB, VIIA and VIII elements of the periodic table and R is a hydrogen atom or a hydrocarbyl group), oxygen, carbon monoxide and carbon dioxide, in an amount, based on the organoaluminum compound, of 0.001 to 50 in terms of the ratio of the moles of oxygen atom to the mole of aluminum.

    An object of the present invention is to provide an α-olefin polymer having excellent molding property, in other words, having an improved ME. The present invention relates to a process for producing an α-olefin polymer comprising polymerizing an α-olefin in the presence of a Ziegler-Natta catalyst, wherein the polymerization is carried out at a polymerization temperature of 92°C or greater and under a condition that a hydrogen/α-olefin (molar ratio) gas composition upon polymerization and a melt flow rate (MFR: g/10 min) of the α-olefin polymer as measured at 230°C under a load of 2.16 kg satisfy the following formula [I]:Formula [I]:    Log (MFR) ≥ 1.5 x log (hydrogen/α-olefin) + 4.5.
