Allyliodide reacts in situ with cerium amalgam to generate allyl cerium iodide, which in turn reacts with ketones to yield homoallylic alcohols in good yields.
Irradiation of aromatic carbonylcompounds and allyl-, 2-methyl-2-propenyl-, or 3-methyl-2-butenyltrimethylstannanes in acetonitrile afforded δ,γ-unsaturated alcohols as major product. A photoinduced electron transfer mechanism is proposed for the allylations.

bismuth shot in the presence of allyl halide, aromatic aldehydes readily underwent a Barbier-type allylation to afford the corresponding homoallylalcohols in good yield. In contrast to the failure in solution reaction, aromatic ketones also underwent allylic carbonyl addition under solvent-free conditions to give the expected tertiary homoallylalcohols in moderate to good yield.
