    There is provided a process for producing a styrenic graft copolymer which comprises coplymerizing a styrenic monomer and a styrenic monomer having a hydrocarbon radical with an unsaturated bond in the presence of a catalyst comprising as primary ingredient (A) a transition metal compound and (B) a contact product of an organoaluminum compound and a condensation agent or (C) a compound which produces an ionic complex by reacting with the above-mentioned transition metal compound and subsequently graft polymerizing an ethylenically unsaturated monomer onto the resultant styrenic copolymer. The above-described styrenic graft copolymer is greatly improved in terms of compatibility, adhesivity, coatability and wettability while preserving heat resistance and chemical resistance thereof, and thus effective as a variety of constructional materials and compatibilizing agents. Furthermore, the composition or multi-layer material comprising the above-mentioned styrenic graft copolymer is widely utilized in a variety of application field including film, sheet, especially stampable sheet, container, packaging material, automobile parts, electrical and electronic parts, etc.

    Compounds of formula (I) are disclosed: wherein L1 is a main group atom, L2 is a neutral ligand, M is a transition element or a metal element of Group 13, 14, 15, or 16 of the Periodic Table, x is the number of coordination sites of M, R1 is a polymerizable group, R2, R3, and R4 are ligands, and R5 is an anionic ligand. The compounds or monomers of formula (I) are capable of conversion to polymers by combination with one or more other known monomers, such as methyl methacrylate. Such polymers can then be added as a binder in a paint formulation to make marine antifouling coating compositions. Also described is a method to prevent fouling on surfaces wherein a composition containing a metal complex compound of formula (II): wherein M, x, L2, n, and R4 have the same meaning as in formula (I), is applied to the surface susceptible to fouling.

    The present invention provides an industrially advantageous process for producing a hydrogenated polymer comprising subjecting a polymer having an olefinic carbon-carbon double bond and hydroxy group and/or a functional group which is convertible into hydroxy group or convertible into hydroxymethyl group to hydrogenation under the presence of palladium on a basic activated carbon and/or platinum on a basic activated carbon. The process of the present invention can produce a hydrogenated polymer having hydroxy group and/or a functional group which is convertible into hydroxy group or convertible into hydroxymethyl group with high retention of a functional group and can achieve a high hydrogenation ratio together with good hydrogenation rate.

    A responsive microgel is provided which responds volumetrically and reversibly to a change in one or more aqueous conditions selected from the group consisting of (temperature, pH, and ionic conditions) comprised of an ionizable network of covalently cross-linked homopolymeric ionizable monomers wherein the ionizable network is covalently attached to an amphiphilic copolymer to form a plurality of ‘dangling chains’ and wherein the ‘dangling chains’ of amphiphilic copolymer form immobile micelle-like aggregates in aqueous solution. A responsive microgel is further provided that comprises at least one therapeutic entity and delivers a substantially linear and sustained release of the therapeutic entity under physiological conditions.
