   A rapid one-pot synthesis of substituted carbazole-9-acetic and -propionic acids under microwave irradiation is described. N-Alkylation and hydrolysis was carried out in DMF without catalyst. The absorption and fluorescence spectroscopic characteristics of the title compounds are discussed.
