    Synthesis, in vitro, and in vivo evaluation of novel functionalized quaternary ammonium curcuminoids as potential anti-cancer agents
    摘要:
    Novel functionalized quaternary ammonium curcuminoids have been synthesized from piperazinyl curcuminoids and Baylis-Hillman reaction derived allyl bromides. These molecules are found to be highly water soluble with increased cytotoxicity compared to native curcumin against three cancer cell lines MIAPaCa-2, MDA-MB-231, and 4T1. Preliminary in vivo toxicity evaluation of a representative curcuminoid 5a in healthy mice indicates that this molecule is well tolerated based on normal body weight gains compared to control group. Furthermore, the efficacy of 5a has been tested in a pancreatic cancer xenograft model of MIAPaCa-2 and has been found to exhibit good tumor growth inhibition as a single agent and also in combination with clinical pancreatic cancer drug gemcitabine.     Polymers including α-hydroxymethylacrylate units and methods of preparing polymers from α-hydroxymethylacrylates are provided. Advantageously, α-hydroxymethylacrylates may be used in an emulsion polymerization and function as a polymerizable surfactant. The ability of the α-hydroxymethylacrylates to be used as a polymerizable surfactant allows for emulsion polymerization systems to be prepared without other surfactants.

    An acrylic ester derivative expressed by Formula (1) below is produced by reacting an acrylic ester expressed by Formula (2) below with a saccharide containing a hemiacetal hydroxyl group expressed by Formula (3) below and/or an alkylglycoside expressed by Formula (4) below: where R1 represents a hydrogen atom or organic residue, R2 represents a hydrogen atom, counter ion, or organic residue, and G represents a saccharic residue; where R1 represents a hydrogen atom or organic residue and R2 represents a hydrogen atom, a counter ion, or organic residue;         G-H     (3) where G represents a saccharic residue; and         G-R3     (4) where G represents a saccharic residue and R3 represents an organic residue. An acrylic-ester-based polymer is produced by letting a monomeric component containing such an acrylic ester derivative undergo polymerization. The resulting acrylic-ester-based polymer renders excellent hydrophilic property, biodegrability, and bioadaptability, and therefore, can be preferably used as a surface finishing agent, a medical material, a water absorptive resin, a surfactant, etc.

    Systems and methods for providing dry rub resistance and reduced dry rub transfer are provided. Specifically, a system for printing durable ink-jet images having good dry rub resistance can comprise a substrate, a first ink-jet pen, and a slip component. The first ink-jet pen can contain an ink-jet ink configured for being jetted onto the substrate and can comprise a first liquid vehicle, and an effective amount of a pigment colorant. The slip component can be configured for being coated over the ink-jet ink once jetted onto the substrate. In one embodiment, the ink-jet ink can further comprise an effective amount of a latex. In another embodiment, a fixer composition can be used for overprinting or underprinting with respect to the ink-jet ink. A method of the present invention can utilize the above system.

    The present invention is draw to the use of post calendaring of ink-jet produced images on offset media to improve smudge resistance and image quality. More specifically, a system for printing durable ink-jet ink images can comprise offset media; an ink-jet ink; and a calendaring device. The ink-jet ink can include a pigment colorant, and can be configured to be printed on the offset media. The calendaring device can be configured for applying pressure to offset media once the ink-jet ink is printed thereon. A method is also provide that comprises steps of ink-jetting an ink-jet ink onto offset media to form a printed image, wherein the ink-jet ink includes a pigment colorant; and applying pressure to the printed image such that a physical property of the printed image is altered by the pressure.
