    This invention relates to novel UV absorbers, their methods of preparation, their use in stabilizing polymers and polymers so stabilized against the degradative effects of UV light. The novel compounds of formula I are oxamides which are substituted on one or both nitrogens with a 2-hydroxy-3-(2H-benzotriazol-2-yl)benzyl group. The 2-hydroxy-3-(2H-benzotriazol-2-yl)benzyl groups are efficient UV absorbing groups and the oxamide group contributes additional light stabilizing, heat stabilizing and metal complexing properties to the compounds. The compounds have low-volatility and are especially useful as UV stabilizers for engineering resins processed at high temperatures.

    Primer compositions are disclosed for improving the adhesion of abrasion resistant polysiloxane coatings to plastic substrates. The primers contain a thermosettable acrylic resin, an aminofunctional organosilicon compound, and optionally an ultraviolet light screening compound. A process employing the primer compositions to provide more durable adhesion of transparent, abrasion resistant polysiloxane coatings on plastic substrates is also disclosed.

    A plastic substrate having deposited on at least one surface thereof a photocured acrylic coat-­comprised of the photoreaction products of: (i) at least one photocurable polyfunctional acrylate monomer; (ii) at least one phenyl ketone photoinitiator; and (iii) at least one active ultraviolet radiation absorber selected from benzotriazoles, cyanoacrylates, and hydroxybenzophenones. The coating is substan­tially completely or completely cured and provides improved protection to the substrate against ultarviolet radiation. The coating is also non-­opaque or transparent.
