    A rubber composition (1) which comprises:    a rubber (A) such as natural rubber, isoprene rubber and the like;    a hydroxy flavan compound (B1) of the formula (I): wherein R¹, R, R³, R⁴ and R⁵ are hydrogen or an aliphatic group and X and Y are hydrogen, hydroxy or an aliphatic group, such as 2,4,4-trimethyl-2',4',7-trihydroxyflavan (B2); and 2,2,4-trimethyl-1,2-dihydroquinoline polymer (C1) containing 1% or less by weight of a primary amine, 3% or less by weight of the monomer and 30% or more by weight of the dimer based on the total weight of the polymer, or a cromane compound (C2) which may be a novel cromane compound.

    The present invention relates to a process for produc­ing branched polycarbonate by an interfacial polycondensation method using an inert organic solvent, an alkaline aqueous solution of divalent phenol, a branching agent, and phosgene, which process is characterized in that as the branching agent, one having a partition coefficient of at least 1 is used, and after separation of the reaction mixture containing a polycarbonate oligomer or polycarbonate and an unreacted branching agent into an organic solvent layer and an aqueous layer, the unreacted branching agent contained in the aqueous layer is extracted with the inert organic solvent and the resulting unreacted branching agent-containing inert organic solvent is returned to the reaction system for reuse. The present invention has advantages of preventing waste water pollution and at the same time, increasing the efficiency of use of the branching agent because it permits to extract and recover the unreacted branching agent contained in waste water with efficiency. The branched polycarbonate obtained by the process by the present invention is good in melt characteristics, is great in dependency on a rate of shear, and is small in draw down. Thus the branched polycarbonate is suitable for extrusion molding.

    A process for producing a branched polycarbonate which comprises using a branching agent containing 200 ppm or less of sulfur; a branched polycarbonate which is prepared by the interfacial method and contains 1.0 ppm or less of residual sulfur as an impurity; and a branched polycarbonate which is prepared by the melting method and contains 2.0 ppm or less of residual sulfur as an impurity; are provided. When the branched polycarbonate is produced by the interfacial method, the branched polycarbonate produced does not show deterioration in heat stability or cause mold corrosion. When the branched polycarbonate is produced by the melting method, the branched polycarbonate produced does not show deterioration in heat stability or in color tone.
