AbstractThe McLafferty rearrangement for 2,5‐diphenyl‐1‐hexene and its deuterium labelled analogues has been investigated. The α‐methylstyrene fragments originating from different parts of the molecular ion retain the charge with equal probability and afford identical metastable spectra. The geometry of the transition state is discussed.
