  A process for the preparation of a compound of the formula:- R is benzyl or C₁-C₅ alkyl, and R¹ is C₁-C₅ alkyl, which comprises heating a compound of the formula:- either in acid addition salt form, or in the presence of an acid catalyst, with at least one molar equivalent of an amine of the formula:-     R-NH₂ either neat or in a reaction-inert solvent.
