  Abstract An efficient and diastereoselective synthesis of functionalized δ‐lactones, based on silyl‐cupration of dimethyl‐2‐alkylidene glutarates, is described. Unmasking of the silicon group and lactonization afford the title compounds with good to excellent diastereocontrol depending on the size of the R substituent on the glutarate.
