α-oligothiophenes with the planarity of acenes, fully fused oligothienoacenes were synthesized and their properties compared to the nonfused α-oligothiophenes. By employing removable solubilizing groups, our synthetic methodology made it possible to efficiently prepare and purify oligothienoacenes with up to seven fusedrings.
