Fluorescence quenching nitrodiarylethene analogs are useful in oligonucleotide conjugates and probes. These analogs, whose absorption spectra are substantially blue-shifted relatively to emission spectra of common fluorophores (such as fluorescein), do not need to rely on spectral overlap of quencher absorbance and fluorophore's emission for their quenching abilities. The oligonucleotide-quencher conjugates may be used in detection methods for nucleic acid targets.
A simple, mild and green approach has been developed for the synthesis of asymmetrical heterobiaryls under the irradiation of visible light without any oxidants and promoting reagents through using Pd/CeO2 nanocomposite photocatalyst. This method can tolerate considerable functional groups such as electron donating groups and electron-withdrawing groups through C-C cross-coupling. Moreover, we obtain the products with moderate yields in an efficient way. Finally, a plausible mechanism is proposed. A variety of pyridinecarboxaldehydes are shown to give condensation products in high yields (80-99%, 10 examples) by reacting with benzene and CF3SO3H (triflic acid). In the superacidic solution, pyridinecarboxaldehydes can react with deactivated arenes (o-dichlorobenzene and nitrobenzene) and with saturated hydrocarbons (methylcyclohexane and adamantane). Dicationic intermediates from pyridinecarboxaldehydes in superacid (FSO3H-SbF5) have been directly observed using low temperature C-13 NMR spectroscopy. Diprotonated pyridinecarboxaldehydes have also been studies using ab initio computational methods. (c) 2006 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.
