    Heating of the neat salts [4-FC6H4N2][RFRF3] (R-F = C6F5, C6F13 trans-C4F9CF=CF, cis-C6F13CF=CF, CF3C C or in solid mixtures with NaF gives the principal product 1,4-C6F2H4 besides RFBF2 or Na[RFBF3], respectively. Thermolysis of [4-FC6H4N2][(C6F13)(2)BF2] in NaF results in 1,4-C6F2H4, Na[BF4], Na[(C6F13)(2)BF2], and a new type of product, the isomer Na[C6F13CF(BF3)C5F11]. (C) 2013 Elsevier B.V.     The invention pertains to a process for manufacturing silicon or germanium quantum dots which process comprises the steps of - reacting a Zintl salt or intermetallic compound of post-transition metals or metalloids of silicon or germanium with a halogen-containing oxidizing agent to form halide-terminated silicon or germanium quantum dots, - subjecting the halide-terminated silicon or germanium quantum dots to a reduction step by reaction with a reducing agent, to form hydride-terminated silicon or germanium quantum dots, and - subjecting the hydride-terminated silicon or germanium quantum dots to, respectively, a hydrosilylation reaction or hydrogermylation reaction with a passivating agent, to form passivated silicon or germanium quantum dots. The process according to the invention makes it possible to obtain quantum dots with a high quantum yield. The invention also pertains to silicon or germanium quantum dots with a quantum yield of at least 20% at an excitation wavelength of 350 nm, and/or at least 15% at 370 nm

  • Thermoanalytical and preparative investigations of the decomposition of potassium perfluoroorganyl(fluoro)borate salts, K[RFBF3] (RF=perfluoroalkyl, -alkenyl, -alkynyl, and -aryl groups) and K[(RF)2BF2] (RF=C6F5 and C6F13)

    Potassium perfluoroalkenyl(fluoro)borates, K[RFBF3], (R-F = CF2=C(CF3), cis-CF3CF=CF, and cis-C6F13CF=CF) decomposed at 208-225 degrees C (T-max, dTG). The K[RFBF3] salts (R-F = C3F7, C6F13, trans-CF3CF=CF, and trans-C4F9CF=CF) decomposed at 273-312 degrees C (T-max, dTG). Both groups of salts formed volatile polyfluoroorganics and K[BF4] as solid residue. The preparative thermolysis of selected prototypical salts K[RFBF3] showed that the polyfluoroorganics consisted of a mixture of internal perfluorohexenes, C6F12, and 1-H-tridecafluorohexane, C6F13H, in case of K[C6F13BF3], and of perfluorooctynes, C8F14, and cis-C6F13CF=CFH in case of K[cis-C6F13CF=CFBF3]. The salts K[(C6F5)(2)BF2] and K[RFBF3] (R-F = CF3C C, CF3CF=CFC C, C6F5C C, C6F5, 2,3,5,6-C5NF4) decomposed in the temperature range 249-337 degrees C (T-max, dTG) and mainly resulted in non-volatile polyfluoroorganics besides K[BF4]. The reaction path of the thermolysis of perfluoroalkyl-, perfluoroalkenyl-, and perfluorophenyl-(fluoro)borates is discussed and compared with that of perfluorocarboxylates.
