  定义明确的结构的线性和支链低聚噻吩的合成是通过3-取代噻吩的区域选择性去质子化以及由此形成的金属化物种与溴噻吩的镍催化交叉偶联而完成的。3-己基噻吩与EtMgCl和2,2,6,6-四甲基哌啶（TMP-H，10 mol％）的反应通过催化生成的位阻酰胺化镁（TMPMgCl）和5随后在镍催化剂的存在下，2-卤代-3-己基噻吩（溴化物或氯化物）的反应得到头对尾（HT）型二聚体。通过重复相同的序列，可以高收率合成高达4个单体的线性低聚噻吩。3-己基噻吩与2的反应 3-二溴噻吩也可以定量提供支链的寡聚噻吩3-mer。在与2,3-二溴代噻吩进一步偶联反应后，还以区域选择性的方式在空间上受阻的位置上将获得的3-mer金属化，从而以> 99％的收率获得7-mer的收率。这些树枝状大分子与几种多功能的有机亲电子试剂反应，生成各种支链的低聚噻吩。

  The reaction of 3-hexylthiophene with Knochel-Hauser base (TMPMgCl center dot LiCl) induced the metalation at the 5-position of the thiophene ring selectively. Following addition of several aryl halides in the presence of a nickel or palladium catalyst afforded regioselectively arylated thiophene in good to excellent yields.
