The synthesis of substituted benzimidazoles, 2-aminobenzimidazoles, 2-aminobenzothiazoles, and benzoxazoles is described via intramolecular cyclization of o-bromoaryl derivatives using copper(II) oxide nanoparticles in DMSO under air.
