With adamantane and 2-adamantan-1-ylethanol in acetic acid sequential introduction of acetate groups at the bridgehead position occurs. In the presence of iodine, adamantan-1-ol affords tricyclo[4,3,1,03,8] decan-4-one via a bicyclo [3,3,1]-nonanone.
