Furthermore, the present invention relates to microparticles M which can be obtained by means of the process according to the invention and also to an agrochemical formulation comprising microparticles M. In addition, the present invention relates to the use of microparticles M prepared according to the invention as component in colorants, cosmetics, drugs, biocides, plant protection agents, fertilizers, additives for food or animal fodder, or auxiliaries for polymers, paper, textiles, leather, detergents or cleaners. Finally, the invention also relates to a method for combating undesirable plant growth, to a method for combating undesirable insect or acarid infestation on plants and/or for combating phytopathogenic fungi, and to seeds treated with the agrochemical formulation.

    A marine paint capable of becoming smoother in relatively moving sea water and having no or a low content of organotin comprises a film-forming acrylic polymer and a metalliferous pigment which is sparingly soluble in seawater. The acrylic polymer comprises 20-100 per cent by weight of monomer units (A) selected from methyl acrylate and ethyl acrylate units, 0-45 per cent by weight of monomer units (B) of a triorganotin salt of an olefinically unsaturated carboxylic acid and 0-80 per cent by weight of monomer units (C) which are alkyl methacrylate units having 1-4 carbon atoms in the alkyl group or styrene units. Monomer units (A), (B) and (C) form at least 80 per cent by weight of the acrylic polymer; the balance of the polymer if any comprises units of at least one other olefinically unsaturated comonomer.

    Improved anti-fouling paint compositions are disclosed, comprising a film-forming polymer and at least one sparingly soluble metalliferous pigment, said polymer being prepared by polymerization of 20-45 wt % of monomer units A of at least one triorganotin salt of an olefinically unsaturated carboxylic acid, 5-35 wt % of comonomer units B consisting of vinylpyrrolidone, vinylpiperidine and/or vinylcaprolactam, the total A+B being of 40-70 wt %, and the balance being monomer units C of C₁-C₄ alkyl methacrylate and/or styrene and optionally up to 10 wt % of another olefinically unsaturated comonomer. Also disclosed is a process for applying a top-coat paint on a ship hull, said paint having a composition as disclosed hereabove.

    Marine paint compositions of a new type are disclosed, which may be prepared free of organotin, giving self-polishing and antifouling coatings. They comprise (i) a first component selected from (a) one or more rosin-based components, preferably selected from rosin or its copper or zinc derivatives, and/or (b) one or more sparingly soluble metal salts of a saturated C₆-C₁₂ fatty acid selected from branched chain acids and/or alicyclic acids, (ii) a copolymer of monomers A which are cyclic tertiary amides or imides having an alkenyl group, acrylic comonomers B, and comonomers C selected from C₁ - C₄ alkyl methacrylates and/or styrene; (iii) at least one sparingly soluble metalliferous pigment; (iv) at least one marine biocide which may be identical to the pigment, and optionally (c) one or more highly insoluble pigment.
