The triflimide-directed C(Sp2)-H functionalization of N-benzyltriflamide with maleimide followed by hydrolysis of in situ generated imine is reported using ruthenium catalysis. It offers the synthesis of various synthetically useful o-succinimide derivatives of benzaldehydes in good to excellent yields. The detailed mechanistic studies and competitive experiments prove the versatility of our developed
