A new method has been developed for generating stannylmanganate in a one-flask operation by treatment of Bu3Sn-SnBu3 with Me4MnLi2 or Me3MnLi. These reagents selectively deliver the Bu3Sn moiety to a variety of organic substrates and show unique steroselective trans-addition behaviour to propargylic alcohols.
