  Sterically crowded stannyl azides (t)Bu(n)Sn(N-3)(4-n) (IIa,b) have been prepared for the first time by the reactions of stannylamines,Sn(N,) (t)Bu(n)Sn(NHR)(4-n) (Ia,b) with Me(3)SiN(3) (a: n = 3, R = H; b: n = 2, R = (t)Bu). The novel compounds were characterized by NMR (H-1, C-13) and mass spectroscopy and their molecular structure determined by X-ray crystallography (IIa: space group P2(1)/m, Z = 2; IIb: space group P2(1)/n, Z = 4).
