Preparation of Homologous Pyrazolonedicarboxylates

Homologous disodium pyrazolonedicarboxylates (8, 16f and 16g) as possible protectors of cis-DDP induced nephrotoxicity, have been prepared by the reaction of hydrazine with di-t-butyl ethyl beta-keto triesters (5b, 13b and 13c) and subsequent hydrolysis of formed di-t-butyl pyrazolonedicarboxylates (6b, 14b and 14c).

The synthesis of dendrons and dendrimers which carry OEG chains and bidentate ligands and/or fluorescence tags is described. The orthogonally protected functional groups of the dendrons allow modification of the substitution pattern and attachment to larger entities. Both dendrons and dendrimers are highly water-soluble. Michael addition reactions of acetoacetates and malonates with acrylates in a 5 M KOH aqueous solution without using any other catalysts are described. When they are either tert-butyl or benzyl esters, the reaction proceeded very rapidly to afford moderate to high yields of the corresponding bis-Michael adducts that are unexpectedly stable under these conditions.
