  The present invention relates to novel spiro [cyclohexan3-1,1'(3'H)-isobenzofuran]s of the formula wherein R, is hydrogen; R2 is NR5R6 wherein R5 is hydrogen, loweralkyl; R6 is hydrogen or loweralkyl; R, is hydrogen, loweralkyl or cycloalkyl having 3 to 7 carbon atoms, inclusive wherein X is hydrogen, halogen or loweralkyl; R4 is hydrogen, loweralkyl or hydroxy; R3 and R4 taken together with the carbon atom to which they are attached form a carbonyl group; the geometrical isomers and optical antipodes thereof and the pharmaceutically acceptable salts thereof wherein R, is not the group, which compounds exhibit antidepressant, tranquilizer, analgesic and anticonvulsant activity.
