A three-component coupling of styrenes is reported, using photoredoxcatalysis to achieve simultaneous arylation and C–O or C–N bond formation across the styrene double bond.

C-H arylation of arenes without the use of directing groups is a challenge, even for simple molecules, such as benzene. We describe spatial anion control as a concept for the design of catalytic sites for C-H bond activation, thereby enabling nondirected C-H arylation of arenes at ambient temperature. The mild conditions enable late-stage structural diversification of biologically relevant small molecules

, pyridine-2-carboxaldehyde oxime, acetophenone oxime, or dimethylglyoxime with diaryliodonium salts under mild reaction conditions and short reaction time in the presence of potassiumtert-butoxide is reported. The diaryliodonium counterion salt plays an important role in the reaction when it is carried out at 40 °C or lower temperatures. A metal-free method for the direct O-arylation of N-hydroxyphthalimide

A method of synthesizing 3-arylquinoxalin-2(1H)-ones using diaryliodonium tetrafluoroborates under mild conditions is described. This protocol has a wide substrate scope and enables direct C–H functionalization. The synthetic potential of this coupling was explored using a range of readily accessible diaryliodonium salts and quinoxalin-2(1H)-ones.
The metal-free synthesis of phenols from diaryliodonium salts with water was developed by using N-benzylpyridin-2-one as an organocatalyst. In this process, sterically congested, functionalized, and heterocycle-containing iodonium salts were smoothly converted to the desired products, and the clofibrate and mecloqualone derivatives were also synthesized in high yields. In addition, the gram-scale experiment
