  经过三步反应，即从森田-贝利斯-希尔曼加成素的简明立体选择性合成3-螺-α-亚甲基-γ-丁内酯羟吲哚的产率很高。（1）Isatin的Morita-Baylis-Hillman加合物与原甲酸三甲酯和蒙脱土K10粘土催化剂的异构化；（2）Morita-Baylis-Hillman与甲醛的第二次反应，以及（3）酸催化的内酯化。通过X射线晶体学和NMR光谱学研究确定产物的结构和立体化学。还实现了次要产物螺呋喃呋喃吲哚的形成和机理，以及一锅碱促进的第二次森田-贝利斯-希尔曼加合物的形成-内酯化反应。
